Fear: Alfredo Cohen

Emotion is the impulse that induces action. No one doubts that today video is the format par excellence for transmitting emotions. 3,000 million videos are sold on YouTube every day and the same amount is added to Facebook every month. It is necessary to connect with new sensibilities, new languages and new times of citizens. Organizations or people who do not understand the paradigm shift, will be outside.

In the Parlante we understand that this type of narrative allows stories to be told and most importantly: that those who produce them, are taken into account by others. For Rodríguez, (2010) telling our own story allows recognition and therefore helps us build what we are, that is, helps us to have us and to be cared. Whether you are a collective, a company or simply a citizen, Counting to be taken into account is not a minor issue in a globalized and fragmented world.

In this sense in elParlante we make two types of video:

  1. The participatory video As a result of our co-creation projects in which a group of people is sensitized and motivated to create a piece in a collective way that generates a reflection/criticism / dialogue on a social theme that is meaningful to them. The videos resulting from this process will then serve as pedagogical material so that the same directors: usually young people, older people, women, students, teachers, can sensitize the communities to which they belong.

“(the video) Pressures, incites, seduces those who use them to undertake processes of symbolic creation. When you hold a microphone in your hand or look at a video camera, the same technology encourages you to point the microphone at your surroundings, to look at your own world through the camera’s viewfinder. Technology itself turns us into craftsmen of sounds and images, symbolic products, and this is precisely where other ways of seeing the environment and imagining the future can emerge. In other words, it is through the reconfiguration of signs, that different collective imaginaries, alternative versions of territory and new utopias to shape the future are generated” (Clemència Rodríguez, 2011: 46).

Aquí un ejemplo de lo muchos proyectos de vídeo participativo realizados desde elParlante. Barribook TV, made in 2012 in the district of Horta-Guinardó

2. On the other hand, the
video of social interest
is an audiovisual product whose script is built by the creative team of elParlante together with entities, foundations, associations, companies, cooperatives, groups or professionals who need to explain, show or sell products, services or ideas with social interest. Although aesthetics and neatness are very important, more than effective tricks, we are interested in telling stories well and telling content that otherwise might seem uninteresting. We have made a large number of videos that have served our allies to: systematize activities such as conferences, plays or exhibitions, raise awareness about a specific topic, make a call, increase the participation of like-minded people, get support for certain causes.

Here is an example of a video made for the FEDAC Educational Foundation.

With different projects we have noticed how the audiovisual can help us to bring new realities, to express our own voice and thus build active citizenship while we reach more and more people.
